The Ko'olau Loa revitalization Project will be providing close proximity housing for as fifteen hundred local families to live in Ko'olau Loa Village and Ko'olau Loa Senior Village. These families will need someplace close by to shop for necessities such as food, clothing; those things that make life easier and more convenient. Additionally, these families, and all Ko'olau Loa residents, will want a place to gather, to enjoy a relaxing meal, and to stroll through and window shop. The project has accounted for these needs through its intention to build Ko'olau Loa Towne Centre, a shopping and entertainment center that will be immediately adjacent to Sugar Mill Studios, and within easy walking distance to both resident villages.
Ko'olau Loa Towne Centre will be designed to provide the local shopper and visitor with a nostalgic trip down the memories of "Old Hawaii." It will provide an afternoon of walking through the historical North Shore and back in time to a place of comfort, welcome, and Aloha. They will move through landscaped gardens and an open community atmosphere where the strains of Hawaiian song and slack-key guitar will fill the air. It will be, a lifetime experience for the visitor and a welcome part of Old Hawaii for the local resident.
Towne Centre will be designed to be environmentally friendly, with renewable energy sources and waste control processes built in. It will make use of the warm Hawaiian sun to produce electricity and heat water; and it will recycle its own trash to produce power that can be shared with the community.
But above all, Ko'olau Loa Towne Centre will provide service to the local residents. They have asked for, and KLP agrees, that the center cater specifically to their support, and each store shall. From local kine grinds, to surf shops; from plate lunches, to aloha wear. Every effort will be made to keep prices low and affordable for local families.
Towne Centre will feature underground passages for movement under the development's main loop highway and special restricted parking for residents of Ko'olau Loa.
The tourist visiting Towne Centre will be charmed by the ambiance, delighted with the historical significance, and mesmerized by the spirit of aloha that surrounds them. Whether they are picnicking on the grounds, or making their own lei from a bag of flowers . . . every moment will be a memory.
Towne Centre will provide an estimated 300 new jobs to local residents, and the opportunity for local residents to own and develop their own businesses. Enhancement of a community through employment and the creation of business opportunity - all part of the humanitarian aspect of the Ko'olau Loa Revitalization Project.
